Francesca E. Duncan
Francesca E. Duncan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology at the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC). She has over 15 years of experience in reproductive biology and has trained with leaders in the field of gamete and ovarian biology, including Carmen J. Williams, MD, PhD and Richard M. Schultz, PhD at the University of Pennsylvania and Teresa K. Woodruff, PhD at Northwestern University. Her independent laboratory is focused on understanding the cellular mechanisms of how aging – both physiologic and iatrogenic – impacts reproductive potential at the levels of the gamete and ovary. Dr. Duncan is an active member of the Oncofertility Consortium spearheaded by Dr. Woodruff. Since 2009, she has co-authored >20 publications on fertility preservation-related topics with Dr. Woodruff. In addition, she and Dr. Woodruff co-authored the first chapter on Fertility Preservation in the revered medical textbook: Yen and Jaffe’s Reproductive Endocrinology. Dr. Duncan serves as the Basic Science Subgroup Leader of the Oncofertility Consortium’s National Physicians Cooperative. In addition, she is the Principal Investigator of a pilot project funded through the Center for Reproductive Health After Disease focused on radiation therapy and the extra-follicular ovarian microenvironment.
